National Park Pass

Day 1

Day 1 – Hobart to Freycinet

Your adventure begins with a warm welcome from your guides at 1.00pm in the foyer of the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart. From here, we set off on a scenic drive northward, soaking up views of Tasmania’s ever-changing landscape. Midway through our journey, we’ll pause in the charming seaside town of Triabunna, a quiet coastal village nestled on the edge of Spring Bay. Take a moment to stretch your legs, grab a coffee (own expense) or simply enjoy the peaceful harbour views. Back on the road, we continue towards the stunning Freycinet Peninsula, home to dramatic granite peaks, white-sand beaches and pristine wilderness. Our destination is Coles Bay, where you’ll settle in at the Freycinet Lodge, perfectly positioned on the edge of the national park with sweeping views across Great Oyster Bay. This evening, unwind with a delicious two-course dinner at the Bay Restaurant. Featuring fresh local produce and paired with regional Tasmanian wines, it’s the perfect way to ease into your walking holiday and get to know your fellow travellers.

Day 2

Day 2 – Freycinet National Park – Wineglass Bay

WALK GRADE: Walk: Approximately 12.8kms. Grade 4. 4.5 -5 hours walking with breaks. Easy to Medium grade. Total climb 160m. Total descent: -160 m

TERRAIN: This walk has one steep climb to Wineglass Bay Lookout, and a steep descent with 1000 stairs to Wineglass Bay. The rest of the walk is relatively flat. Track conditions are excellent to Wineglass Bay. Beyond this, the track narrows, with some minor obstacles.

WALK ITINERARY: Enjoy breakfast in the hotel restaurant overlooking stunning scenery. From here you will be transferred to the start of the trail in Freycinet National Park. Established in 1916, Freycinet National Park is one of the state’s oldest and best-known parks. Its grand granite peaks and beautiful white beaches are set against the azure blue ocean to create a truly beautiful landscape. Today we enjoy a great walk to the famous sweeping curve of sand known as Wineglass Bay, voted as one of the top 10 beaches in the world. We then return along a scenic trail beneath the magnificent Hazard mountains, skirting the coastline and passing a number of picturesque coves, perfect for swimming on hot days. A short five minute drive at the end of walk brings you back to Freycinet Lodge, our accommodation for the next 2 nights. Tonight the group will enjoy a wonderful dinner in the Bay Restaurant featuring local Tasmanian produce, perfectly matched with local wines.

Day 3

Day 3 – Cooks Beach – towards Mt Graham or Bryans Beach

TRANSFER TIMES: Morning pick up by boat from Freycinet Lodge wharf and cruise to the start of our trail at remote Cooks Beach. Afternoon: 5 minute transfer from end of the walk to our accommodation.

FLEXIBLE WALKING: Today choose from a challenging walk towards Mt Graham for sensational views or an easier option to Bryans Beach and Hazards Beach.

WALKING GRADES: LONG WALK GRADE: Approx 16kms. 8 hours walking with breaks. Hard grade. Steep sections towards Mount Graham. Total climbing: 660m. or SHORT WALK: Shorter, easier walk available. 12kms. Total climb 200m.

TERRAIN: LONG WALK: This is an old-school bushwalking track. Expect to do a bit of ducking and weaving, clambering up and down rocks and crossing creeks. The track has many obstacles such as rocks and exposed tree roots. Add to this a steep ascent towards Mt Graham, and then a similar descent. SHORT WALK: Flat, sandy with some steps towards the end.

WALK ITINERARY: After a hearty breakfast, our boat picks us up from the wharf in front of the lodge and takes us to the remote southern region of the National Park. We disembark off the boat onto Cooks Beach where our walk begins. Our long walk climbs up to East Freycinet Saddle towards Mount Graham. This is a challenging ascent but the variety of scenery and abundant wildlife make this the most enjoyable section of the track. Enjoy superb, panoramic views over Freycinet National Park along the way. For those doing the shorter option, you will be dropped at Cooks Beach with the rest of the group then head out to explore Bryans Beach before following the coastline and being picked up at Hazards Beach by boat. At the end of the trail we make our way back to Freycinet Lodge, with time to shower and freshen up before the group gets together for dinner in the Bay Restaurant. Savour wonderful local produce and wines as we chat about the day’s adventure.

Day 4

Day 4 – Mt Amos or Cape Tourville Lighthouse and Sleepy Bay Walk, Scenic Helicopter flight & Celebratory Winey Lunch

Walk grade: HARD OPTION: 4km return, 3-4 hours. Grade 4 Hard, steep terrain. Total climbing: 410m. Good level of fitness required. EASY OPTION: 1.5kms, 1hr walking. Grade 3 Easy

Terrain: The track to Mt Amos climbs steep, rock slabs. There are large step-ups, some rock scrambling and some exposure while climbing and descending. The Cape Tourville Lighthouse Walk is along a well-made track & the track to Sleepy Bay has man-made steps which take you down to a stunning pink pebbly beach.

Flexible walking: You have the choice this morning to choose Mt Amos or Cape Tourville Lighthouse & Sleepy Bay Walk.

Itinerary: Enjoy one final breakfast at the Freycinet Lodge before choosing between one of today’s two great short walks. You’ll have the option between, Mount Amos – a challenging walk which climbs to stunning 360-degree panoramic views of Wineglass Bay and the surrounding coastline. This walk isn’t for the faint hearted & shouldn’t be attempted by anyone with a fear of heights. The second option is a very enjoyable easy walk around the Cape Tourville Lighthouse & Sleepy Bay, with sweeping views and the opportunity to see marine life, this easy but fulfilling walk is one you won’t forget. After the walks, we’ll take a short drive to the Freycinet airstrip. Here you’ll experience the breathtaking beauty of Tasmania with a thrilling helicopter flight over Wineglass Bay and the Hazards Mountain Range. Soar above the stunning coastline, marvelling at the iconic crescent of Wineglass Bay and the rugged peaks of the Hazards. This unforgettable aerial adventure offers panoramic views of pristine beaches and vibrant landscapes, providing a unique perspective on one of Australia’s most picturesque regions. Capture incredible photos and create lasting memories from the sky! With first class service, your helicopter will drop you off at a local winery where the group will enjoy a beautiful celebratory lunch with wine tasting. After lunch we’ll transfer back to Hobart where this incredible tour will finish. Estimated time of arrival back to Hobart is around 5:30pm
